Movement is about more than staying active. It can help us become more aware of our bodies, improve our confidence and create a greater sense of calm.
At Closer Care, our 6-week Mindful Martial Arts Program has been designed to support NDIS participants through gentle, purposeful movement in a safe and welcoming environment. Rather than focusing on fighting or competition, each session encourages participants to slow down, stay present and reconnect with their bodies.
Discovering the Mind-Body Connection
Many people move through their day without noticing how their body feels.
Our martial arts program encourages participants to become more aware of their posture, balance, breathing and movement. By practising simple techniques with intention, participants begin developing a stronger connection between their mind and body.
This increased awareness can support confidence, coordination and everyday wellbeing.
Mindfulness in Motion
Mindfulness doesn’t always happen sitting quietly with your eyes closed.
It can also be experienced through movement.
Each class invites participants to focus on the present moment, paying attention to how they move, breathe and respond. This mindful approach creates a calming environment where participants can relax, feel grounded and enjoy learning at their own pace.
Building Confidence One Step at a Time
Confidence often grows through small achievements.
As participants become more familiar with the movements, many begin to feel more comfortable in their bodies and more willing to try new things. Every session provides opportunities to celebrate progress, no matter how big or small.
Our goal isn’t perfection. It’s helping each participant feel capable, supported and proud of their own journey.
More Than Physical Movement
The benefits of our Mindful Martial Arts Program extend beyond physical activity.
Participants also have the opportunity to:
- Build body awareness and coordination
- Develop mindfulness and focus
- Improve confidence and self-esteem
- Connect with others in a supportive group setting
- Enjoy a new experience in a safe environment
- Support their overall physical and emotional wellbeing
These shared experiences help create meaningful connections while encouraging participants to continue exploring their abilities.
Supporting NDIS Goals Through Group Activities
Our Mindful Martial Arts Program can support a range of NDIS goals, including increased community participation, greater independence, improved wellbeing and stronger social connections.
By combining mindful movement with a supportive group environment, participants are encouraged to develop skills that can positively impact many areas of everyday life.
